AutoSkill Celebrates Academy Star Award 2009 Winners
Two Students and Two Teachers Honored for Achievements in Reading and Math
AutoSkill International today announced the winners of its Academy Star Awards 2009. The two outstanding teachers who earned the Academy Innovator Award in its debut year are Elizabeth Allen, Reedy Creek Middle School, Cary, N.C.; and Amy Bjork, instructional specialist, George E. Anderson Elementary, Spring, Texas. The two Academy Star Student winners are Jonathan from Ware County High School in Waycross, Ga.; and Tia from Kingstree Elementary School in Kingstree, S.C.

The California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators (CALSA) announced today that AutoSkill International is continuing its commitment to mentoring Latino and Latina school leaders by sponsoring the 2008-2010 Cohort of the CALSA Administrator Mentoring Program. This is the second year that the company has invested in the program designed to increase the number of new Latina and Latino school leaders, as well as support their retention in leadership roles.

Students at Antwerp Local School District in Ohio will become young entrepreneurs this year as they launch a cookie-baking business designed to build their financial literacy, math and reading skills. As recipients of the grand prize in the Second Annual "District Administration" X-Factor Student Achievement Grant, teachers from the rural Ohio school will use a $20,000 cash prize, a one-year subscription to AutoSkill's award-winning reading and math intervention solutions and professional services package to start their innovative "Cookie Academy" and put special needs students in grades K-12 on the path to improved achievement.
