Why teach analogies?

Studying analogies helps students to sharpen reasoning ability, develop critical thinking, understand relationships between words and ideas, learn new vocabulary, and prepare for the SATs and for standardized tests. Each of the 3 books in this useful series consists of 3 parts written in a clear, conversational style with few technical terms.

While the nature of the instructional material in all three books is similar, the amount of attention given to it—discussion, examples, and exercises—decreases as the level of the book increases.

Quiz booklets with perforated pages, intended for photocopying, are available to test both vocabulary and analogy problem-solving skills.

This instructional material is written in clear, conversational English with a minimum of technical terms and makes mastery of analogy techniques manageable for students. There are also warm-up exercises for the students, which are followed up with helpful answers and explanations. Part 2 presents hundreds of analogies organized into 3 groups.
