Reading Comprehension in Varied Subject Matter

The Early Reading Comprehension workbooks (Books A–D) are for young readers, specifically grades 2–4. Reading Comprehension (Books 1–6) targets grades 3–8, and MORE Reading Comprehension (Levels 1–4) is designed for junior high and older students.

The entire Reading Comprehension series is particularly useful in a classroom that has students of varying reading abilities. The consistent format allows students in the same class to use different levels in the series. Students gain confidence and increase their reading, language, and comprehension skills as they progress through the series.

Early Reading Comprehension in Varied Subject Matter

This popular series offers nonfiction reading passages with comprehension questions on a variety of subjects. Topics and questions prepare students for standardized tests and provide valuable practice in nonfiction reading comprehension. Themes such as “Great Americans” and “What Do You Think?” reappear in each book, with the exact focus of the passage changing according to the level of the material.

Early Reading Comprehension

Four illustrated workbooks contain stories, brief articles, and poems in seven subject areas: general topics, social studies, science, logical thinking, mathematics, literature, and the arts. The variety of the selections gives students practice in reading about a wide range of subjects.

Reading Comprehension in Varied Subject Matter

This series offers nonfiction reading passages with comprehension questions on a variety of subjects. Each workbook has 31 selections in these subject areas: social studies; science; literature; mathematics; philosophy, logic, and language; the arts; and combined subjects. Each book in this series is arranged thematically. The themes relate the selections to one another, show different aspects of a topic, and give students a broader knowledge of a subject.

Each selection follows a consistent format 7-step format in presenting the passage, and includes exercises on vocabulary and writing.

MORE Reading Comprehension in Varied Subject Matter

These books specifically target students in junior high school or beyond who need more practice in reading comprehension skills. Each book contains 25 selections and has the same format as other books in the Reading Comprehension series, with selections on social studies; science; literature and language; philosophy; logic and mathematics; the arts; and combined subjects.

Exercises develop students’ skills in finding the main idea, identifying facts, following sequences, drawing conclusions, and making assumptions. The books also contain a new writing component that gives students practice in writing a short paragraph as well as a longer piece that gives their interpretation or opinion of a question related to the selection.
