Reach your struggling adolescent readers
MCI is a unique blended learning solution that provides targeted literacy intervention for struggling readers in middle and high school. At the heart of the program is explicit and direct comprehension instruction. Through carefully scaffolded lessons, students learn to use skills and apply strategies to master comprehension. The blended model integrates the best of teacher-led, face-to-face instruction with engaging, individualized online instruction to maximize the depth, intensity, and effectiveness of the intervention.
Woven through every lesson are multiple opportunities to build students' vocabulary and fluency. Additional support for students struggling with decoding or writing skills can be found in two components MCI Word Study and MCI Writing.

MCI Comprehension
The Student Edition contains high-interest fiction and nonfiction texts designed for struggling readers. Students interact with and mark texts. The Teacher's Edition provides direct, systematic, research-based instruction of comprehension skills in the context of a strategic approach to reading that progresses from modeling, to guiding, to coaching, to independent application. Each lesson includes before, during, and after reading support with point-of-use teaching techniques and reminders about when to administer assessments.

MCI Online
MCI Online's adaptive software branches students into one of two paths for individualized instruction. Students receive interactive comprehension instruction and practice, with scaffolded support from an animated Helper Guide. Regular online assessments check student progress and easy-to-use reports are available in the online Management System.

Engaging, Interactive, Motivating

Assessment
Students take the MCI Pre- and Post-Tests: Placement and Progress Monitoring Using The Lexile Framework® for Reading at the beginning of their MCI intervention and at the end of each level. Short, three-minute Maze Tests occur biweekly for more frequent progress monitoring. And Unit Skill Tests check progress with the focus skills at the beginning, middle, and end of each unit. Optional assessments are also available.

Personalized Lobby
Students access their current MCI assignments on a video monitor in the lobby. They can open their lockers to view Video Introductions, Interactive Skill Lessons, My Words Cards, and Skill Cards, or to customize their smart-phone Helper Guide. Unit Completion Certificates are accessed via the Trophy Case.

Interactive Skill Lessons
Interactive Skill Lessons reinforce teacher-based instruction with fun videos about real-world situations related to the unit skill.

Assessments
MCI Pre- and Post-Tests Using The Lexile Framework® for Reading measure general reading ability at the beginning of the program and at the end of each MCI level.
MCI Progress-Monitoring Assessments: Maze Tests for Comprehension are short tests that give teachers frequent and immediate feedback on student progress with general reading ability.
MCI Unit Skill Tests assess progress with the specific skills taught in the program.
MCI Comprehension Assessment CD-ROM provides teachers with many additional options for assessment, such as timed fluency tests, a diagnostic skill test, and cumulative skill tests.

Management System and Reports
MCI's online Management System automatically records performance data from assessments and other online activities. MCI Reports offer several options for viewing, interpreting, and using this data, making it easy for teachers to monitor progress, differentiate instruction, and manage RTI implementations. Additional reports offer administrators a convenient way to monitor Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) goals and ensure program fidelity.
