Advancing vital reading comprehension skills is what this library is all about!
Grades 1–6

Making Connections Comprehension Library

This multi-genre collection prepares students to analyze and interpret diverse narrative and informational materials encountered outside the classroom. Students practice building meaning through strategies such as activation of background knowledge, comprehension monitoring, using graphic organizers, answering and generating questions, and summarizing. Informational readers incorporate the use of nonfiction features such as indexes, glossaries, tables of content, and captions.

For the teacher’s convenience and classroom control, each reader includes:

  • A purpose-setting question
  • A graphic organizer
  • Follow-up comprehension questions
  • A writing activity
