A Multisensory Curriculum for Teaching Reading, Spelling, and Handwriting
PAF is a comprehensive three-year program for teaching reading, writing and spelling in the primary grades using multisensory techniques. PAF is designed to prevent reading failure in children with learning disabilities when begun in kindergarten or first grade. But, it can also be used as an effective beginning reading program for all children and incorporates the reading practices supported by scientific research.
PAF Teacher Handbook
The PAF Handbook is the key to the PAF program. It is a detailed guide to using all the materials in a sequence of unified lessons.
Features of the handbook include:
Clearly written, step-by-step instructions for teaching reading, spelling, and handwriting using multisensory techniques
A sequence of over 200 lessons that includes reading material for fluency and comprehension, as well as words and sentences for spelling instruction
Assessment tests to monitor progress
PAF Stepping Up Student Practice Books
The Stepping Up Student Practice Books provide word, phrase and sentence lists for developing word recognition, reading fluency and comprehension. They are a critical component of PAF and can also be used as a fluency program in conjunction with any beginning reading program.
Eight decodable narrative and informational texts are coordinated with PAF
lessons and Stepping Up
Student Practice Books to develop fluency and comprehension.
Merrill Skills Books
Each of the eight Merrill Readers has an accompanying Skills Book that provides additional practice with decodable text. Comprehension skills include work on main idea and details, cause and effect and making inferences. Mastery Tests are included for each level.
PAF Handwriting Program
Writing easily and legibly is possible for all students, even those with graphomotor weaknesses, by using these books for print, numerals and cursive writing. They are an important part of the PAF reading program and can also be used as a stand-alone classroom handwriting program.
