Preventing Academic Failure, Stepping Up In Reading 2

Children will love reading when they can do it effortlessly! Use the Stepping Up In Reading books to develop accuracy and fluency so that children understand what they read. Stepping Up In Reading: Building Accuracy and Fluency Book 2 contains word, phrase, and sentence lists that provide practice in decoding, word recognition, and expressive reading. Students can achieve automaticity by focusing on sound/symbol associations, blending, proper pronunciation, phrasing, and intonation. Activities provide more practice and help develop reading comprehension. The phonetically controlled lists follow the sequence in the PAF program.

Skills addressed include initial blends (plant, truck, strong), long vowels (brave, please, those), open syllables (pre tend), silent e syllables (ath lete ), r-controlled syllables (or bit) , and vowel team syllables (rea son), suffixes est, ful, less, ly and y (cheapest, hopeful, completely), and 35 sight words (could, their, where).
